Helmut Scholz
Helmut Scholz is a German politician (DIE LINKE) and a Member of The Left group in the European Parliament from 2009 to 2024.
He was a member of the Committee on International Trade (INTA) and the Committee on Constitutional Affairs (AFCO), and a substitute member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) until 2019. Scholz participated in delegations for relations with the USA, China, Belarus, Mercosur, South Asia, and various Parliamentary Assemblies.
His work focused on trade agreements, such as the WTO reform, TTIP, EU-Ecuador, EU-China investment, and EU-Africa trade. He advocated for EU treaty reforms, citizen involvement, the European Citizens’ Initiative, EU enlargement, and Brexit negotiations. Scholz coordinated the Left Group in the INTA and AFCO committees and was part of the WTO Parliamentary Conference Steering Committee.
