The Archive of Contemporary Social History (ASKI) is the leading Greek archival institution for the history of political and social movements. It was founded in 1992 as a non-profit organisation and is located in the centre of Athens. ASKI serves as a meeting place for academic research and public projects focusing on the history of the left, the transnational links of social movements and the dialogue between historical memory and contemporary politics.
ASKI is particularly active in the development of digital humanities projects, which include a digital museum of the prison island of Makronissos and a multifaceted online database on the founding of the Third Hellenic Republic (1974-1989). ASKI is currently developing a digital museum on European solidarity against the Greek military junta (1967-1974), which aims to show the networks of resistance and solidarity across the European continent and the way in which the « Greek case » became a reference point for the European left.
ASKI’s public activities include a weekly radio programme, walks, workshops and conferences. These activities have made ASKI a visible and influential institution that enriches public dialogue and historical consciousness while promoting an inclusive and radical understanding of Greek social and political history.
