Wars have this destructive potential to impact the structure of communication, change the perception of facts, instrumentalise language and ways of thinking, lead to conspiracy traps and promote biased interests. During the Catholic event World Youth Day 2023, Christians and Marxists will discuss theory and praxis of communication in war times.
This initiative supported by the European Union is co-organised by the Christian-Marxist Dialogue Project DIALOP and transform! europe. The goal is to make young people aware of how communication, social media and digital technologies influence us, and how we can influence communication (social media) — as well as to reflect with them on how to recognise the traps of communication and make choices. Can we approach the truth? Are we able to respond or are we doomed to destroy relationships with people, countries, populations because of lies and misinformation? How can we continue to make choices, build relationships and stand for truth and justice?
The workshop takes place during the Catholic World Youth Day WYD Lisbon 2023 (lisboa2023.org, « JMJ 2023 ») in Lisbon on 1 and 3 August. A group of 9 Christians and Marxists participating in the Dialop project will present theoretical and practical components of “communication in times of war”. The theoretical and practical pillars will be debated both from the Christian and Marxist-socialist sides.
