The celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the accession of the Czech Republic and other Central European countries to the EU were not without pathos and highlighting successes and positives. The challenge for our guests is to offer a more balanced view of EU membership for member states whose prominent feature is dependency. The panel will offer perspectives from the two peripheries of the EU, the South and the East, and will place particular emphasis on the situation of the Czech Republic. The discussion will be based on two studies that have looked in detail at the political economy of the two regions and the Czech Republic.
