Discussion with Brazilian climate researcher and activist Sabrina Fernandes on key contemporary issues, organised by transform!Danmark, NOAH – Friends of the Earth, Global Aktion, and Extinction Rebellion.
A debate with Sabrina Fernandes is an extraordinary opportunity to prepare for the discussions and activities in the framework of COP26 (UN Climate Change Conference) this autumn. Fernandes is an acknowledged reseacher in the field of political ecology and also capable of providing a perspective from the Global South with a radical, socialist view on climate change.
Besides this public meeting she will be giving lectures at the University of Copenhagen, Aalborg University and Lund University, Sweden.
Sabrina Fernandes is a sociologist and political economist. She is a postdoctoral fellow with the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung International Research Group on Authoritarianism and Counter-Strategies.
The discussion will focus on the impact of the recent IPCC report (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change of the UN) and provide reflections to the following questions:
– What impact does the IPCC report have on international debates and policy choices up to COP26 (Glasgow, 31 Oct. until 12 Nov.)?
– What is the reaction from national and international actors? Have their reactions changed?
– What will be the most urgent issues to be addressed and what will politically be possible?
– How will irreversible changes affect the lives of future generations?
– How will it affect Latin America and how are these changes viewed within these countries?
– Does climate assistance from the Global North play any positive role for the Global North?
