This year’s conference is dedicated to the question ‘Can the EU still be saved? The implications of a multi-speed Europe’. It will be jointly hosted with the Nicos Poulantzas Institute and the Department of Geography at Harokopio University in Athens. Proposals for papers should be submitted by 14 May.
The European Economists for an Alternative Economic Policy in Europe (EuroMemo Group) is a network of European economists committed to promoting full employment with good work, social justice with an eradication of poverty and social exclusion, ecological sustainability, and international solidarity. The group was founded in 1995, and includes participants from a wide range of European countries. It holds an annual conference and publishes an annual Memorandum which provides a critical analysis of recent developments in the European Union and is available in several European languages.
As in past years, transform! will take on the responsibility for the production of the printed versions of EuroMemorandum in English, French, and German. For the 2017 edition click here.
Invitation to attend the conference and to submit proposals for contributions to the workshops
All papers that present an alternative economic perspective on the conference theme ‘Can the EU still be saved? The implications of a multi-speed Europe’ are welcomed. In particular, the EuroMemo group encourages submissions specific to one of the following topics on which the workshops will be based. Details on the topics can be found here.
- Macroeconomic policies: debt overhang and sustainable growth & development
- Dynamizing productive development in the EU: structural reforms or industrial policies?
- Financial policies: Dollar hegemony and the subordination of European finance
- Inequality and social crisis
- The EU in a fragmenting international order
- Alternative visions for socio-ecological transformation and the good life for all
Proposals for papers together with a short abstract (maximum 250 words) should be submitted by 14 May 2017 to info@euromemo.eu. If possible, please indicate the topic which the proposal is intended for. If accepted, completed papers should be submitted by 3 September 2017 so that they can be read before the conference. The organisers strongly encourage participants to submit short papers (10-12 pages) and to explicitly address policy implications.
Registration: If you would like to participate in the conference, please copy the registration form into an email and reply to info@euromemo.eu. Please note that there is no deadline for registering for participation only.
Fee: Please note that there will be a conference fee collected at the venue to cover the cost of the conference (30 Euro / 10 Euro for students / 80 Euro for participants with institutional support).
An information sheet with practical information including details about hotel bookings and transport will be sent out via the EuroMemo Group mailing list in early May. Early booking is strongly recommended.
