The Left MEP Dimitrios Papadimoulis Re-Elected as Vice-President

EP Plenary session - Conclusions of the European Council meeting of 12 and 13 December 2019

Dimitris Papadimoulis, head of the Syriza-PS Eurogroup, succeeded in being re-elected as Vice-President for the fourth time in a row.

Papadimoulis had been nominated unanimously by the Left Group in the European Parliament (EP) and, even though The Left only consists of 39 MEPs, received 492 votes.

Papadimoulis’ responsibilities as vice-president include:

  • Gender equality and diversity
  • High-level Group on Gender Equality and Diversity, Chair
  • WG on Information and Communication Policy, Member
  • Chancellery of the European Citizen’s Prize, Member
  • Replacing the President for European trade unions
  • Replacing the President for the Council of Europe and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)
